Meet the

Lacey is a healthcare and informatics leader with more than 20 years of experience in clinical care, technology, education, and operational transformation.

As Senior Director of Informatics Education at Stanford Health Care, she leads the team responsible for Epic onboarding, adoption, and ongoing education for more than 20,000 providers, residents, and staff, helping drive effective use of technology to improve the care experience.

In her spare time, she likes to read, hike, and garden.

Jose Rodriguez is currently the Director of H.I.T. Training for UVA Health and oversees the Epic training for the UVA Health enterprise which consist of Inpatient/Ambulatory Clinical and Revenue Cycle applications.

Previously, Jose was the Sr. Training Manager at UMMS overseeing the Epic training for 14 hospitals across Maryland. Prior to that, he was an Operational Administrator for Johns Hopkins (JH) where he was responsible for managing ambulatory family practice and multi-specialty sites since 1999. While at JH he was responsible for training new managers, served as Supply Chain Project Lead training clinical procurement & worked closely with the Epic Training teams.

José is a member of ALPFA, HIMSS, HIEN, Toastmasters International, and ISTE. He has a degree in Business Administration and Healthcare Administration from the University of Maryland, graduate certification in Instructional Technology Integration and AI Essentials for L&D. He is currently pursuing a certificate from ISTE and is also a master’s candidate at University of Maryland for Instructional Technology (MSIT).

Fun fact: I practice Brazilian Jujitsu and am an 8-time regional champion for my belt, age, and weight.

Gentry Kenner is the Director of IS Training & Support with Riverside Health in Virginia with over two decades of experience spanning bedside clinical nursing, clinical informatics, and health system leadership. Beginning as a CNA on an oncology unit and later working as an RN in the emergency department, Gentry earned an MSN in Nursing Informatics and is a board-certified informatics nurse. Gentry currently serves as Director of IS Training & Support at Riverside Health System in Southeastern Virginia, overseeing training and support infrastructure across inpatient, outpatient, and ancillary workflows across a system of 5 acute care hospitals, 3 specialty hospitals, LLH centers and over 100 outpatient practices. 

Gentry holds multiple Epic certifications, including Cupid, Structured Reporting, SmartForms, and Ambulatory. This specialty depth, particularly in cardiology workflow design, has shaped Gentry's approach to informatics education: the belief that durable adoption comes from specialty-specific, operationally grounded training rather than generalist approaches.

Outside of work, Gentry has a passion for home design, renovation, and restoration, with a particular love of hunting down vintage finds and giving them new life.

Reece is currently the Director of Healthcare Solutions at uPerfom. Reece is a clinician-turned-strategist whose work in neurological rehabilitation led her into the Epic training space at UCHealth, where she served as Strategic Training Architect designing enterprise systems education. She is now Healthcare Solutions Director at uPerform, helping health systems turn EHR training into measurable adoption.

Fun fact: she's a living liver donor, and can confirm the organ grows back.

Romeo Asido is an IT informatics education leader and Sr. Manager at Stanford Health Care, where he leads technology adoption, onboarding training, and systems implementation across complex healthcare operations. With over ten years of direct leadership and education delivery experience, he specializes in building collaborative partnerships, elevating team performance, and driving seamless digital transformation.

Guided by a commitment to innovation, individualized staff development, and a strong operational culture, Romeo pairs deep technical expertise across platforms like Epic Systems, HealthStream, ServiceNow, and Amplifire with agile project management practices. Beyond his corporate leadership, he is a dedicated career development coach and mentor, helping professionals navigate public speaking, interview preparation, resume development, and ongoing career growth.

Fun fact: Romeo once rented a motorcycle for a race and caused the second highest amount of damage in rental company history - only beaten by the owner themselves.

Karen is a Nurse Informatician with Geisinger with focus on Epic and technology optimization, clinical workflow improvement, education, and documentation and process standardization. Partners with clinicians, operational leaders, and IT teams to implement technology solutions that enhance patient care and improve efficiency. Professional interests include nursing informatics, clinician adoption, education, change management, data-driven decision making, and healthcare technology innovation. Passionate about empowering clinicians through education, innovation, and the thoughtful integration of informatics into healthcare delivery.

Fun fact: Karen enjoys gold prospecting in her spare time and her engagement ring and future wedding bands were made with the gold she and her fiancé found.

Terry is a Knowledge Management Specialist on the Informatics Education team at Stanford Health Care.

Terry’s research interests are centered around participatory inquiry – a method developed in 1997 by John Heron and Peter Reason.

Within the HIEN, Terry facilitates a small research and writing workgroup, interested in exploring interdependent pieces of a core research question: in what ways does the history of the informatics education field shape its present and future?

Terry has co-authored several pieces with colleagues over the years, including two pieces about adults and online professional development.

Terry's scholarship centers on developing working adults within complex organizations, with particular relevance to healthcare and clinical settings. This work is influenced by his doctoral research, “Exploring the Impact of Mississippi Virtual Community College Academy Professional Development for Online Teaching,” which examined how structured professional development shapes working adults’ capacity to teach and lead in virtual environments.

More recently, Terry presented at national conferences including KM World and KAHIMA on building an AI-ready knowledge foundation for an enterprise-adopted knowledge base. Across all of it, the goal is to support individuals with their passions to study, research, understand, and ultimately, share that knowledge with others.

Rebecca is Vice President of Health Informatics and Chief Nursing Informatics Officer at the University of Vermont Health, where she leads the intersection of clinical practice, data, and emerging technology across a multi-hospital system. She brings a unique dual perspective to her work: roughly 15 years in information technology before she became a nurse, earning her BSN in 2008 and PhD in 2013 — a background she credits with shaping how she sees the gap between what health IT promises and what frontline nurses actually experience. Dr. Freeman previously served as Chief Nursing Officer at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC), where she helped shape national health IT policy, and she is a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Executive Nurse Fellow. She co-chairs the Nursing Knowledge and Big Data Science (NKBDS) Initiative at the University of Minnesota and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.

Her passion for informatics/technology education began when she realized that no one seemed to own the responsibility of teaching nurses how to use technology effectively. From nursing school through professional practice, she observed a consistent focus on clinical competence while data, informatics, and digital technologies remained largely absent from educational pathways. Considering the environment of care today, she believes these capabilities are as fundamental to nursing practice as traditional clinical skills. Rebecca is super excited to engage with the Health Informatics Education Network and help to advance the evidence, competencies, and educational strategies needed to prepare nurses for a technology-enabled future of care.

Fun Fact: I was childless until 44 and then I thought it would be fun to have a baby! Never have I ever done something that leaves me asking, at least 10 times each day, "What on earth am I supposed to do NOW?" Highly recommend this as a life choice!
